Jazz music entertainment by Jazz musician and composer George Carroll - Big Band Jazz Music

George Carroll Big Band Jazz Music mentors young Christian Waylan

I have always wanted to mentor a talented young musician. In 2009, I came in touch with young trumpet player Christian Wayman and his parents Vicki and Cliff.

I've had the pleasure of having Christian play trumpet in my 17 piece jazz big band, and I must say that he his one hell of a reader despite his young age of 14.

My prediction is that young Christian will propel himself into the music world with verve and panache.

Mr. Murphy was discovered by Sammy Davis Jr. who helped him land his first record contract and introduced him to Steve Allen. "The others stayed with pop music, but I chose jazz," Mr. Murphy explained. His first big hit was Allen's "Everything's Coming Up Roses." He also had the first vocal treatment of "Fly Me To The Moon."

Mr. Murphy has performed in virtually every important concert hall in the world. He is often referred to as the "singers' singer." Lee Muziker, pianist for pop icon Tony Bennett, said of a recent performance, "How he can still do what he does is amazing. At 78, he sounds like he is 45." Mr. Murphy continues to travel internationally and has two CDs scheduled for release this year. He also has been the subject of several DVD biographies.
